It's time to take advantage of the off season and get your new pup ready for his or her first hunting season.
First and foremost, work on obedience, heel, sit, and stay. Once they are comfortable with those fundamentals, start simple retrieving. Make sure your pup goes directly to the retrieve and more importantly directly back to you. No running around should be allowed. This is easily accomplished by walking away and calling the pup as soon as he picks up the bumper.
It's always better to have a positive yet short session than getting frustrated and going too far. Keep in mind that they are still puppies. Their attention span is limited.
